Bankside Log
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 August 2026
Bankside Log is a fishing logbook built to stay out of your way on the water. This policy explains, plainly, what information the app collects, why, and what control you have over it.
01Who we are
Bankside Log is developed by Andy Moxham, operating as a sole trader ("we", "us", "our"). We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
You can reach us at privacy@banksidelog.uk for any question about this policy or your data.
02Information we collect
We collect the minimum needed to run the app. Everything below is either supplied by you directly, or generated as you log trips and catches.
| Category | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Email address, and an account identifier created by our authentication provider | You, when you sign up or log in |
| Trip and catch data | Trip dates and times, session notes, tackle and method, bait, species, weight, and conditions you record | You, while logging a session |
| Location data | Map coordinates you pin for a trip or catch | You, or your device's GPS if you allow location access |
| Photos | Images you attach to a catch or trip | Your device's camera or photo library, with your permission |
03How we use it
- To create and secure your account, and let you sign in
- To store and display your trips and catches on your personal map and stats screens
- To let you generate a share card, if and when you choose to create one
- To respond to you if you contact us for support
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell your data.
04Our legal basis
Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Contract — processing your account and log data is necessary to provide the app's core features to you.
- Consent — for optional device permissions such as camera, photo library, or precise location, which you can grant or withdraw at any time in your device settings.
06Location and map data
Location is central to how Bankside Log works, but it stays under your control:
- You choose whether to pin a trip's location using your device's GPS or by placing a pin manually on the map.
- You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings; the app remains usable with manual pin placement.
- Location data attached to a trip or catch is private by default and is only included in a share if you choose to include it.
07Photos
Photos you attach to a catch or trip are uploaded to Firebase Cloud Storage once you're signed in, alongside your account data. If you're using guest mode, your photos stay only on your device and are never uploaded anywhere. We request camera or photo library access only when you choose to add a photo, and only to the extent needed to let you pick or take that image. We do not scan your photo library beyond what you select.
08Storage and security
Your data is stored using Google Firebase infrastructure, with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Access to production data is restricted to what is necessary to operate and support the app. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
09Retention
We keep your account and log data for as long as your account is active. See how to delete your account for step-by-step instructions — we currently handle deletion requests directly and will delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to keep limited records for legal or accounting purposes. Guest sessions are never uploaded in the first place, so uninstalling the app or clearing its storage removes that data immediately, with nothing further to request.
10Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your trip and catch data in a portable format
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent for optional permissions at any time
Editing and deleting individual trips and catches are available directly in the app. To delete your account entirely, request a copy of your data, or for anything else, contact us at privacy@banksidelog.uk and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe. UK and EU residents also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
11Children's privacy
Bankside Log is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.
12International transfers
Because we use Google Firebase, your data may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence, including outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where this happens, Google provides contractual safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your data in line with UK and EU data protection law.
13Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Bankside Log evolves — for example, when we add iOS support or new features. We'll update the "last updated" date above, and where a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app.
