Bankside Log

Terms of Service

Last updated: 21 August 2026

These terms cover your use of Bankside Log, the app and the websites banksidelog.com and banksidelog.co.uk. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them.

01Who we are

Bankside Log is developed and operated by Andy Moxham, operating as a sole trader ("we", "us", "our"). These terms are a contract between you and us covering your use of the Bankside Log app and the banksidelog.com and banksidelog.co.uk websites (together, the "service").

For how we handle your personal data, see our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms by reference.

02Acceptance of these terms

By downloading, installing, or using Bankside Log, or by creating an account, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you don't agree to them, please don't use the app.

03Eligibility

Bankside Log is not directed at children. You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent in your country if higher, to create an account and use the service. If you are younger than this, please don't use the app.

04Your account

Creating an account is optional — you can also use Bankside Log in guest mode without one, in which case this section doesn't apply until you decide to sign up.

  • You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account.
  • You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account, and to keep it up to date.
  • Let us know as soon as possible if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
  • You can request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us; see our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do.

05The service

Bankside Log is currently provided free of charge. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on your own devices, for your own recreational fishing logging, subject to these terms.

The app is provided "as is." We do our best to keep it reliable, but as a small, independently run project we can't guarantee uninterrupted availability — see Disclaimers below.

If we introduce a paid tier or optional purchases in future, we'll update these terms and let you know in the app before any charge applies to you.

06Your content

"Your content" means the trips, catches, notes, photos, and any other material you add to Bankside Log.

You own what you create

You retain ownership of your content. We don't claim any ownership over your logs or photos.

The licence you give us

To operate the service, you grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display your content back to you, and — only where you actively choose to use the Share Card feature — to generate the shared image or file you select. We don't use your content for any other purpose, and we don't sell it.

Your responsibility for what you add

You're responsible for the content you add. Don't upload anything you don't have the right to use, or anything that's illegal, infringing, or violates someone else's privacy.

07Acceptable use

When using Bankside Log, please don't:

  • Use the app for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that breaches fishing regulations, licensing requirements, or protected-area rules in your location
  • Attempt to access another user's account or data without permission
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where the law gives you the right to do so
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to circumvent the security of the service
  • Use automated means to scrape, extract, or bulk-access data from the service
  • Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this section — see Suspension and termination.

08Third-party services

Bankside Log relies on third-party infrastructure to work, including Google Firebase for authentication, database, and photo storage, Google Maps for mapping, and the Google Play Store for distribution. Your use of these components is also subject to the relevant third party's own terms — for example, Google's Terms of Service. We're not responsible for the availability or performance of third-party infrastructure we don't control.

09Our intellectual property

The Bankside Log name, logo, app design, and the original photography used within the app belong to us and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Except for your own content, and the limited licence to use the app granted above, nothing in these terms gives you any right to copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the app or its design.

10Disclaimers

Bankside Log is a personal logging tool. It is not a substitute for your own judgement about safety, weather, water conditions, or local fishing regulations.
  • The app is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
  • Weather, tide, and location information you record or view is for your own reference only. We don't guarantee its accuracy, and it should never be relied on in place of official sources or your own on-the-water judgement.
  • You're responsible for complying with local fishing licences, catch limits, protected species rules, and any other regulations that apply to you — the app does not check or guarantee compliance with these.
  • We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.

11Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, Bankside Log — including loss of data, loss of logged catches, or loss arising from decisions made based on information in the app.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of the service is limited to the amount you've paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose (which, while the app is free, is currently nil).

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that can't be excluded or limited under applicable law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

12Suspension and termination

You can stop using Bankside Log at any time, and can request deletion of your account by contacting us (see our Privacy Policy). We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, or if we reasonably believe your use of the service poses a risk to us, other users, or the service itself. Where practical, we'll try to give you notice first. Sections of these terms that by their nature should survive termination — such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — will continue to apply.

13Changes to the app and these terms

Bankside Log is under active development, and we may add, change, or remove features over time — for example, as we build iOS support. We may also update these terms as the service evolves. We'll update the "last updated" date above, and where a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

14Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you're a consumer resident elsewhere, mandatory consumer protection laws of your own country may also apply and take precedence where they conflict with this section. Any dispute not resolved informally will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless local law requires otherwise.
